Mark Tasker

A product of the Nokomis High School jazz-factory and an alum of the Berklee College of Music, Mark Tasker takes his musical cues from cats as disparate as Miles Davis, Derek Trucks, Chet Baker, Sting, Led Zep, P-Funk, Roy Hargrove (whom he saw once at the Stockholm Jazz Festival), Art Blakey, and ‘Trane.  A musical pirate in the finest tradition of jazz, Mark will blend tradition upon tradition, sound upon sound, and groove upon groove so long as it lets him wage his relentless war upon schlocky, boring jazz. He is something of a world-wanderer, leaving footprints from Minnesota to the south of Newfoundland to his beloved Sweden, where his life’s ambition is to see AJP open the Umea Jazz Festival one day. Mark plays a Bach Strad (from 1978!) and a Benge flugelhorn on Laskey mouthpieces.

  • About the Aurora Jazz Project

Maine’s freshest entry into the jazz scene is a quartet with a deliberately enigmatic name. “Aurora Jazz Project” began gigging in the Bangor area in early 2005 with the goal of breathing new life into jazz by taking it in some new and innovative directions.

With influences that range from Miles Davis to Weather Report to Derek Trucks, the members of the ‘Project each bring something to the sonic stew and take great pride in not sounding like a typical jazz quartet.
